Set against the backdrop of a small Georgia town, Because You Answered follows a single night that weaves together the lives of several emotionally frayed yet resilient characters. Athena Gracen, a devout and strong-willed mother, finds herself trapped in a wrecked car after a quiet act of defiance—disabling her location to teach her daughter a lesson—turns into a potentially fatal mistake. As she hangs injured and alone in the dark, the only connection to the world is a broken phone and a 911 dispatcher named Cathy, whose own life is teetering between sacrifice and burnout. Over the course of the night, the two women—strangers to each other—forge a life-affirming bond through candid conversation, shared regrets, and hard-earned faith.
